Prof. Okwudiri Aloysius Anyiam

Professor Okwudiri Aloysius Anyiam, a native of Umuobom in Ideato-South, Imo State, is a distinguished scholar in the field of Petroleum Geosciences. He is currently a Professor and the Head of the Department of Geology at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). A dedicated educator and researcher, Prof. Anyiam has garnered extensive academic and professional expertise spanning over two decades. Prof. Anyiam holds a Ph.D. in Geology (Petroleum Geology) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he also earned his B.Sc. (Honours) and M.Sc. in Petroleum Geology. Further enriching his academic portfolio, he obtained an M.Sc. in Petroleum Geosciences from the University of Manchester and a Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Studies in Academic Practice from Newcastle University, United Kingdom. With a career that commenced as a Field Quality Control Seismologist with CNPC/BGP Nig. Ltd., Port Harcourt, and progressed through various impactful roles, Prof. Anyiam has made significant contributions to both industry and academia. He served as a Senior Research Advisor during his sabbatical at Shell Petroleum Development Company and has held teaching positions at UNN, advancing from Graduate Assistant to Professor. In addition to his academic endeavors, Prof. Anyiam has taken on vital administrative roles, such as Coordinator of the PTDF LSS Scholarship Scheme at UNN and Guest Lecturer at the Centre of Excellence in Geosciences & Petroleum Engineering, University of Benin. His research excellence has been recognized with awards, including the NMGS/TOTAL Best Paper Presentation and a PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship. A member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorers (NAPE), and Council of Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG), Prof. Anyiam continues to contribute to the advancement of geosciences through active research and mentorship. Beyond his professional commitments, he enjoys reading, farming, shopping, and traveling, reflecting a balanced and dynamic personality
